- A series of children and a dog solving the mystery of a haunted mansion is basically the same thing as Scooby-Doo and his friends solving various spooky mysteries.
- When Chet scares Ruff with a giant eyeball (actually a hamster wheel that looked like an eyeball), he reacts by say the famous one-liner "Zoinks!", which is what Shaggy and Scooby say when they're frightened.
- Furthermore, he then asks if he's allowed to say that word.
- The children set up a trap to catch the villain, which is what Mystery Incorporated do whenever they are up against a monster.
- The iconic line "I would've gotten away with it if it weren't for you meddling kids and your dog!" was said by the butler after he was caught, which is what a villain in the Scooby-Doo franchise says when he or she is defeated by Mystery Incorporated.
